Free STL viewer online
Open an STL file in your browser and look at it from every side. The STL viewer reads binary and ASCII STL, stands the part up the way it will print, and shows clay, wireframe and X-ray views beside a triangle count; nothing is uploaded.
The STL viewer in numbers
Clay shows the shape, wireframe the triangles and X-ray what hides inside; textured, normals, UV checker, glow and segments complete the set.
Each file is opened inside the browser tab, so a large print file never leaves your computer.
An STL carries no color, so the viewer gives it a neutral gray material to judge the shape by.
Studio, sunset, forest, apartment and night environments light the part from different sides, with adjustable intensity.
What to check in an STL before printing
Four things an STL viewer shows faster than a slicer preview.
Inner walls and doubled shells
X-ray draws the surface as a see-through shell, so walls inside the part, a second shell or buried pieces show before the slicer trips on them.
Scan noise and faceting
Clay drops color and texture, so lumps, steps and noisy scan surfaces are easy to see on a gray print file.
Triangle density
Wireframe shows where triangles crowd, and the panel counts triangles and vertices, so a file of several million triangles is no surprise.
How the part will stand
An STL is Z-up; the viewer turns it upright, so you see it the way it will sit on the print bed.
View an STL file in three steps
Everything happens in this browser tab.
Open the STL
Drop or pick a .stl up to 250 MB, or open the treasure chest or low-poly fox sample to try the views first.
Orbit and switch views
Drag to turn the part, scroll to zoom, then flip between clay, wireframe and X-ray from the bar above the model.
Save a view or keep going
Save a PNG of the angle you want, or send the STL on to the polygon reducer, repair, a print base or the converter.
Conditions and limitations
Limits of viewing an STL online
The viewer shows the file as it is; other tools change it.
No size readout
The STL viewer counts triangles but does not report the part's dimensions; the resize tool and the 3D file converter read an STL's size in millimetres.
Viewing does not repair
Holes and flipped faces stay as they are; STL repair closes them and proves the part watertight.
Your hardware sets the limit
Very dense prints, above about 2 million triangles, can stutter on a phone or on a laptop's built-in graphics.
